PNC bank truck robbers continue to evade police

The April robbery of an armored car outside of a TD Bank in the Northeast shares similarities to a December 2011 bank robbery in Olney.

Back on December 8, 2011 a Garda armored car, while delivering money to the PNC Bank at 4th and Tabor, was robbed by masked gunmen.

The afternoon robbery involved a shotgun and a semi-automatic pistol being pulled on a Garda employee. The robbers fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash in a maroon four-door Impala sedan.

Surveillance photos of the alleged robbers, descriptions of their vehicle and a $50,000 reward have led to no reported arrests.

The Philadelphia Daily News wrote about similar highly efficient and unsolved robberies of Garda cars over the past year throughout Philadelphia. FBI spokesman J.J. Klaver did not mention any relations to the Olney robbery but he told the Daily News that these types of robberies are not random and are planned based on observed patterns of delivers.

“Even with bank robbers who aren’t armed, there’s a certain amount of desperation involved, and that’s what worries law enforcement the most, if that desperation increases,” Klaver told the Daily News.
