Meet your most-likely City Council member for the 9th District

After 27 years as the leader of District 9 in City Hall, Marian Tasco has announced her retirement. The clear favorite to take her spot downtown is former State Representative Cherelle Parker. Tasco has even called her former intern her successor. Parker told no one can hand her the seat, but it looks pretty straightforward.

After a lawsuit challenging the signatures of possible contender S. Archye Lealock was presented, Parker’s lone competitor is Republican Kevin Strickland.

Democrat Parker has spent 10 years in Harrisburg’s State Representative building representing Philadelphia residents. She was a member of the appropriations, labor and industry, professional licensure, rules and transportation committees in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

The city council election takes place city-wide on May 19. Another noteworthy election taking place on that day is for the Democratic mayoral candidate.
