An Olney elementary school listed as an upcoming charter overhaul
A Daily News article on philly.com reported that an elementary school in Olney and three other Philadelphia public schools are going to be changed to charter schools. The article listed Creighton elementary as the Olney school, but Creighton is located on 5401 Tabor Ave., which doesn’t fall under the official borders of Olney and most locals would tell you Creighton is in the Northeast/Lawncrest section of the city.
Currently, Olney High School (100 W. Duncannon Ave.) is the only charter-run school in Olney. The Philadelphia School District turned it over to ASPIRA in fall 2011 after the school scored persistently below the school district’s average.
